We went to the Spring Beer Fest in honor of my husband's birthday. We took the train and ran into Ted's German co-worker who sat with us on the train. The train that we were supposed to take to the location of this fest was not running today so we had to take an alternate train and then walk from the train station to the location.
It was in Bad Cannst and in my personal opinion, not a very nice part of town but Ted wanted to go just once and his company was sponsoring a table. We walked through drizzle and came to the location. It turns out it was in an amusement park setting. The amusement part was the typical cheesy amusement park.
After walking through many, many twist and turns past barkers and rides we came to the tent (or building) I couldn't tell with all of the people. It was a mad house. You couldn't get through and we had to have an arm band. We finally were able to get in and it was wall to wall tables and wall to wall people.
No one was sitting, everyone was standing on the benches and singing along with the band who was at the end of the room and the room was so large we couldn't find the table. Ted's co-worker advised for us to stay in one place while she went around the room to find our table. Ted spotted one of his co-workers who was dressed in liederhosen (Germany's custom male pants - usually made with deer skin - and can be either long - to the ankles - or short - to the knees). He told us where the table was.
We waited for his co-worker to return to let her know we knew where the table was. Luckily too, because she didn't find the table. We tried to make our way through the crowds to the table and it was unbelievable. Ted went to get a beer and left me standing in the middle of the aisle with all of his co-workers.
Most of whom were dressed in traditional German garb. Ted returned and after two sips of the beer, said let's get out of here. It was not our type of place and it was way too crowded. We left and walked back to the train.
On the way, we munched on cinnamon covered almonds and stopped to get chocolate covered strawberries and chocolate covered pineapples (on a stick). They were wonderful. By the time we got home we were exhausted and watched TV.
Earlier in the day, I made Ted his favorite cake: German chocolate (what else?) and I had bought Black Forest Ice cream the day before. It was a wonderful way to top off a not too pleasant evening.
