Day 131: Household shopping

Today was one of those lazy days when we just wanted to kick back, sleep in and eat a nice home-cooked breakfast...or rather lunch.

I made Ted his favorite bacon and eggs with German hash browns. They are a bit different from ours in that they are much thinner and have onions in them but they are delicious, none the less.

After lunch we head back out to the BX/PX to check on a sweeper and a floor lamp. he overhead lights are way to strong to keep on in the evenings. We find a wonderful floor lamp that was not too expensive and fits with our decor but we couldn't get a light bulb for it so it means we have to go to the Marktkauf to get a light bulb. The BX also did not have a sweeper that we liked so again, it would be the Marktkauf for this appliance.

While at the Marktkauf we took another look at the washer and dryers again. It's really getting to be a drag to haul clothes to the laundry on base and then carting them back home again. It will be doubly painful if we delay getting a washer and dryer. I don't want to be carting soaps and laundry through the snow to wash them. UGH! My target date to get the washer and dryer is the end of September...just in time for fall cleaning.

We had seen a sweeper when we were there the last time and this time, we bought it. We were surprised at how inexpensive this sweeper was! It was about 50 Euro which is equivilant to about $75. I don't think I could buy a sweeper for $75 in the US,at least not brand new with all of theattachments! We got an energy efficient bulb for the floor lamp as we are very conscious about how expensive power is here.

At night, we not only shut down our computers but we also unplug them which is something we never did in the states. We also shut down our network saving more energy and prohibiting those annoying sales calls from the US in the middle of the night!

We get home and unpack our goodies and try our new floor lamp and sweeper. I am so happy about the lamp and the sweeper does a great job of picking up that ever growing population of dust bunnies!
